Bach in Menorca

Lithica - Pedreres de s'Hostal - 8.30 P.M.

The Bachcelona Consort will offer a small-format concert in such an unquestionably unique setting as the S’Hostal Quarries in Menorca. This talented ensemble comprises excellent musicians of various nationalities who reside in Barcelona and who have worked, within the framework of the Bachcelona Festival, with such prestigious conductors as Václav Luks, Shunske Sato, Ton Koopman and Masaaki Suzuki. They have also performed in a number of important festivals like the FeMÀS of Seville, the Religious Music Week of Cuenca, the Antique Music Festival of Gijón, the Bach Festival of Saint-Donat in France and the BRQ Vantaa Festival in Finland.

In this concert we propose a panorama of the Bachian music most clearly composed in Italian style, which will even feature interpretations of transcriptions that the great composer made of Vivaldi and Marcello concertos. This will highlight Bach’s great esteem for the Italian composers and their musical language, which captivated him and influenced his writing, particularly in his most markedly chamber-style music.

Katy Elkin, oboe
Ignacio Ramal, violin
Clara Pouvreau, cello
Daniel Tarrida, harpsichord
