Sacred Polyphony
Sala Parés - 08.00 P.M.
Joan March (1582–1658) is the first composer of the School of Montserrat whose musical work has been preserved, making him a key figure in the history of Catalan music. He played a fundamental role in the consolidation of the Baroque language in Catalonia and among his disciples stands Joan Cererols, one of the most important composers linked to the monastery of Montserrat.
So we will have the opportunity to listen to his impressive Requiem Mass for eight voices, a work of great expressive depth conceived for the funeral cult. This piece will dialogue with the Bach family’s motets for the deceased, establishing a bridge between the two European musical traditions.
With this concert we participate in the celebrations of the centenary of Montserrat Torrent.
