Opening Bach (BWV 69 & 71)
L’Auditori de Barcelona (Sala Oriol Martorell) - 19.00 H
To begin the Bachcelona Festival, we are proposing two cantatas that stand out for the exceptional beauty of their instrumentation and composition, with trumpets and timpani in their orchestral structure. Both cantatas were written to inaugurate town councils in solemn ceremonies for which Bach proposed vocal and orchestral parts of great brilliance.
The cantata Gott ist mein König BWV 71 is an early piece of this type, which was first performed in Mühlhausen in 1708, while the cantata Lobe den Herrn, meine Seele BWV 69 was one of the last cantatas to be presented by Bach in Leipzig in 1748, so this concert allows us to appreciate the complete evolution of the great composer’s musical language.
