Bach in the Palau (I)

Palau de la Música (Petit Palau) - 8.00 P.M.

In 1764, at the age of eight, Mozart visited London, a trip that marked the beginning of a close relation with Johann Christian Bach, the leading musician at the king of England’s court. Indeed, Bach’s son clearly influenced the young Wolfgang (for example, Mozart’s first piano concerts are transcriptions of pieces by J.C. Bach), and this friendship lasted throughout his life. When Mozart learned of Johann Christian’s death in 1782, in a letter to his father he wrote: “What a great loss for the world of music!”

In addition to an inspired symphony by J.C. Bach, we will have the chance to listen to a piece by Mozart himself, the Adagio and Fugue K. 546, written under the direct influence of  Johann Sebastian’s polyphonic writing. The concert concludes with Haydn, another friend of Mozart and master of the classical symphony.
