BECA SALVAT BARROC 2026

Under the name of Salvat Bach Grant, Pau Jorquera, Daniel Tarrida and the boost and patronage of the Salvat Foundation, a grant for the development of young singers was created in 2014. Today, the grant called SALVAT GRANT for BAROQUE MUSIC (SGBM) aims to promote the training and development of young soloist singers of ancient music to become a benchmark platform that offers visibility to new vocal talents.

In addition to rewarding the best soloists in each of the four voice categories (soprano, contralto-countertenor, tenor, and baritone-bass), the mission of the Salvat Grant is to identify, train and provide opportunities for young soloists from around the world to perform in concerts, for whom winning the scholarship can be an effective boost at the start of their professional careers.

With the SGBM, the Salvat Foundation, the entity that develops charitable work of the Salvat Pharmaceutical Group, annually awards four soloists an economic endowment of 5,000 euros for each of the winners, and links it with their participation in the concerts that will be programmed throughout 2025/26
(detailed in these rules), in which they will be accompanied by musicians with a solid career in the world of performance with baroque instruments and historical criteria. The SGBM has the support and musical programming expertise of the Bachcelona Foundation, the Bach Collegium Barcelona and the Fundació Orfeó Català – Palau de la Música Catalana.

The SGBM also offers training and collaborations with renowned musicians and professionals. In previous years these have included countertenor Carlos Mena, soprano Katharine Fuge, baritone Stephan MacLeod, tenor Benjamin Bruns, baritone Jan Van der Crabben, flautist Michel Brun, soprano Miriam Feuersinger, bass Alex Ashworth, soprano María Espada, soprano María Hinojosa and the director of the Academy of Ancient Music Laurence Cummings. In 2025/26 grant recipients will have the privilege of working with counter tenor Alex Potter, with who they will prepare and share stage at the winners presentation concert that will take place at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona.

Terms and submission applications

The call for applications will be open between 8 July and 10 August 2025 (both dates included).

Selection process

The organisation will carry out a first round of selection of applicants based on the analysis of the documentation submitted via the MUVAC PLATFORM.

Once the application period is over, the organisation will decide which of the candidates will go on to the next phase of face-to-face auditions.

This decision will be final and will be communicated by e-mail.

Phases of the face-to-face auditions
The Salvat Grant organisation will carry out the selection of grant recipients in two phases of face-to-face auditions.

The accompaniment of the face-to-face phases will be done with harpsichord tuned at 415 Hz.

First phase
The objective of this phase is to select the candidates who will progress to the final audition.
It consists of face-to-face auditions in Madrid, Barcelona and Basel:

Tuesday 23 September 2025 > Fundación Albéniz / Escuela de Música Reina Sofía (Madrid)
Thursday 9 October 2025 > Sala del Cor. Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona)
Friday 17 October 2025 > Don Bosco Musik- und Kulturzentrum (Basel, Switzerland)

Performance of a compulsory aria (see repertoire of compulsory arias in the section Requirements for audition), along with a baroque style piece (composed before 1750) chosen by the candidates themselves.

The schedule for the auditions and interviews will be communicated in due time via the e-mail address provided by candidates in their application.

The panel’s decision will be final and will be communicated via e-mail.

This audition phase may be recorded with the aim of being able to review the recordings later if the jury deems it appropriate.

Final auditions
The aim of this phase is to select the four grant recipients of the 12th edition of the Salvat Grant for Baroque Music 2026.

Those selected in the first phase will be invited to attend the final audition at the Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona).

Thursday 13 November 2025

Repertoire: This audition will consist of the compulsory aria (the same one performed in the first phase), along with one chosen by the candidate (different from the one performed in the first phase).

The jury of this edition will be made up of:

• Javier Peris – President of the Salvat Foundation
• Pau Jorquera – Bach Collegium Barcelona
• Daniel Tarrida – Bachcelona Foundation
• Mercedes Conde – Palau de la Música Catalana
– Antoni Pallès – Gran Teatre del Liceu
– María Hinojosa – Soprano
– Jordi Maddaleno – Musical critic

The Foundation reserves the right to replace the members of the jury who are unable to attend the final audition.

In addition, the auditions may be attended by people whom the Salvat Foundation deems appropriate. The Foundation reserves the right to have the auditions of the final phase open to the public.

Audition requirements

Candidates must perform two arias of baroque style.
• One required aria:

Aria soprano BWV 32.1 Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen
Aria contralto BWV 187.3 Du, Herr, du krönst allein das Jahr
Aria tenor BWV 186.5 Mein Heiland läßt sich merken
Aria bass BWV 56.1 Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen

• Another one freely chosen by the candidate, of baroque style composed prior to 1750.
The organisation will provide an accompanying harpsichordist. However, if a  candidate wishes to bring their own harpsichordist, they will need to let the  organisation know in advance. In this case, the organisation will happily oblige.

Awarding of the grant

The jury’s decision will be made public within a week following the completion of auditions. Their decision will be final. All candidates will receive the results via e email and they will also be announced simultaneously via the Salvat Foundation’s website www.fundacionsalvat.com

The Salvat Grant jury reserves the right to declare one or more void grants if it considers the quality of the candidates to be insufficient.

The SGBM will be considered awarded once the recipient has accepted it in writing via email to salvatbecabach@fundacionsalvat.com within 15 calendar days from the date of announcement of the results. Failure to do so will result in the recipient waiving the grant.

By accepting the grant, the chosen candidates are obliged to carry out all the activities programmed by the SGBM. Failure to comply with this commitment without a duly justified cause may result in rescission of the grant.

The Salvat Foundation reserves the right to postpone or cancel the concerts it organises in case of force majeure, without this implying any possibility of a claim by the SGBM recipients.
The Salvat Foundation will not cover travel expenses for the audition phases. However, once the grant recipients have been selected, the Foundation agrees to cover the travel and accommodation expenses incurred by the grant recipients related to the concerts and activities directly linked to the SGBM of 2026.

In the event that a choir is required for the interpretation of the proposed pieces, the grant soloists will interpret the arias assigned to them and will also participate as part of the choir, should the director consider it appropriate.

However, the Salvat Foundation will organise a series of concerts throughout the year featuring various soloists who have won previous editions of the SGBM. These concerts are separate from the concerts which the winners of the BSMB for the current year commit to.
